Though it was used by many automobile manufacturers it was deeply imperfect as because the dirt easily got into the brake and needed to be fixed in every 200-300 miles.
The new inventory of the European cars became popular with the disc systems lined up with friction material that slowed down the wheels in motion effectively. The asbestos lining on the discs certainly silenced the noise of applying brake.
With the invention of hydraulic brakes installed in the system was a further development for the automobile industry. These used cylinders and tubes for applying fluid pressure against the wheels to slow it down.
