The role of an OT or occupational therapist can be defined in the way that an OT is a model by which a patient can perform his occupation or activity gradually to get back in the flow of life. An occupational therapist deals with the occupation of a patient; especially which occupation helps the patient to regain the mental satisfaction and to influence overall health. An OT not only helps people who are mentally or physically or emotionally disabled but also helps to regain the strength to participate in daily activities. OT helps patients of different age group from elder to adult to children in regaining the lost confident and vitality of life. - OT also assists patients to perform various activities from operating computer to daily works like cooking, dressing, eating and performing yoga and exercises to achieve strength in body and muscles.
The role and activity of an OT is diverse and it changes in according to the condition of the patient the OT treats. When it is impossible for a patient to improve his health and mental condition without proper medication and a doctor, a medical center or hospital must have occupational therapist in the team of medical professional to assist patients getting rid of disabilities. In this age, the holistic role of an OT is incontrovertible.
